(by Valentina Roncati) (ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 05 - Almost three years after the beginning of the epidemic next school year, the air exchange in most of the classrooms will continue to take place by opening the windows: despite the announcements arrived from various parts, in fact, the schools do not have specific funds to install the ventilation systems and the same Dpcm signed by Prime Minister Draghi and by the Ministers Bianchi and Speranza, published recently in the Official Gazette, refers to the guidelines drawn up by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in which it is read verbatim among other things: "The use of sanitizing, purification or ventilation devices means cooling only if it involves an improvement of the indoor air.

   It is possible, for example, that the simple ventilation of the rooms through the opening of the windows can significantly improve the quality of the air, favoring the dilution and reduction of both the chemical agents released inside and the viruses and bacteria released by the occupants.

The external sources of pollutants near the classrooms (eg motor vehicle parking near the windows) are further elements to consider.

Similarly, the observance of simple norms such as the ban on smoking throughout the school perimeter, the absence of furniture and polluting materials, the hygiene and treatment of floors and surfaces, is an important prerequisite in this context.

In other words, it is recommended that the use of additional sanitizing devices,

    But the school leaders protest.

"The schools therefore do not have funds to provide ventilation systems: some can do so if the Municipality finds funding or there are regional initiatives, or there are sponsorships by some companies but they are sporadic initiatives; at the government level, the schools do not receive specific funds to be allocated to We have had the funds for the emergency that seemed to be rotating but they are all gone ", observes Cristina Costarelli, president of the National Association of Lazio Presidents.

    The executives also complain that the measure sees the plant builders as recipients and the text itself is not easy to read and has a technical part that is difficult to understand for the principals.

"Basically, the elective measure - observes Costarelli - remains to keep the windows open. Then there is the critical point of timing: guidelines published now fail to be applied in September, it is too late".

Another sore point: the school director must ask ASL and Arpa to monitor the air quality and only if they are not positive must ask the owner of the school building (which is often the local authority) to intervene.

"But this complicates the steps and amplifies the times, which become incalculable.

   It would have been simpler to give indications and funds to the Entilocali to make the interventions where necessary: then we would reopen the schools exactly as we closed them, ie by keeping the windows open;

at most we will be able to provide the Co2 measuring environments to open them when the Co2 level is critical ", concludes the vice president of Anp. (ANSA).
