Reichersbeuern: An emergency generator for emergencies

The municipality of Reichersbeuern wants to purchase an emergency power generator in the event of a power outage and gas shortage in connection with the energy crisis in winter.

Because of the war in the Ukraine and a possible gas shortage in the coming winter, the municipality of Reichersbeuern would like to prepare and procure an emergency generator.

The municipal council decided to get an emergency supply - only what kind exactly remained open.

"We want to be prepared for all cases that could possibly occur due to gas shortages and power failures," explained Mayor Ernst Dieckmann.

If the power goes out for days, the citizens – unless they have a tiled stove – get cold.

Cooking, showering and heating then no longer work in most households.

According to the mayor, an emergency generator should supply the relevant community facilities with electricity in the event of a supply crisis: first and foremost the gymnasium, which can then serve as a contact point.

The citizens could then also shower there.

In addition, the emergency generator could supply the fire station, the heating center of MWB Reichersbeuern and, if necessary, the town hall.

Reichersbeuern: An emergency generator in the event of a supply crisis?

"We assume that we will need an output of around 80 to 100 kilovolt-amperes (kVA)," said Dieckmann.

The costs are difficult to estimate because the market is very dynamic.

You have to reckon with 45,000 euros including trailer and accessories.

"We all hope that the worst case scenario doesn't happen.

It doesn't hurt to be prepared," said Dieckmann.

He admitted, however, that the enormous power would not be needed in normal times.

The mobile unit, mounted on a trailer, should be stationed in the fire station because it can later be used there later.

Of course, you have to think about bunkering a certain amount of fuel.

In response to a question from Gertraud Wallner, Dieckmann pointed out that some lifting platforms also had to be supplied with electricity for the sewage system.

The deep well at Fuchsloch is supplied with electricity by an emergency power generator from the municipality of Waakirchen.

The municipal council discussed whether a power take-off unit would be an alternative.

These are cheaper to buy and are operated by tractors.

According to Dieckmann, such a device will not be available until spring 2023 at the earliest.

No decision yet as to which device to purchase

Michael Sixt had different information on this.

He has learned that low-power units up to 40 kVA are in high demand.

Devices with 60 kVA, on the other hand, are available until autumn.

Cost: 8500 euros.

Dieckmann had doubts that there would actually be enough suitable tractors available in an emergency because they all had the same problem.

Klaus Harrer finally got to the heart of the debate.

“This is a fundamental decision.

We should now determine whether we want emergency care, in whatever form.” The municipal council spoke out unanimously in favor of emergency care.

The decision on the specific type of device was scheduled for a closed session.

As our newspaper learned, the council did not make a decision even without an audience.
