The UN envoy for the Middle East, Tom Wensland, published a statement this evening (Friday) regarding the conflict between Israel and Islamic Jihad, in which he criticized the assassination of Taysir Ja'ebri, the head of the terrorist organization's military wing in the northern Gaza Strip, by Israel.
"I am very concerned about the ongoing escalation between Palestinian extremists in Israel, including the assassination of one of the leaders of the Islamic Jihad today inside Gaza. These events are occurring at the same time as the escalation of tensions throughout the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip," Wensland wrote.
He added that "in the last few hours, at least ten Palestinians have been killed, (without mentioning that most of them were Jihad terrorists) in Israeli airstrikes. I am deeply saddened by the reports that a five-year-old girl was killed in these strikes. There can be no justification for any attacks against civilians." .
After that, Wensland also briefly condemned the firing of rockets at Israel, and wrote that "the launching of rockets must stop immediately. I call on all parties to refrain from further escalation."

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, attacked Wensland's words and wrote in a statement that he published: "While the Islamic Jihad is firing missiles at the citizens of Israel, the UN envoy expresses 'deep concern' regarding the thwarting of a senior terrorist, who was in the middle of carrying out a terrorist attack .
Will the UN envoy also express his deep concern about the neutralization of al-Qaeda leader al-Zawahiri?
"How long will the UN continue to make a false and immoral comparison between a democracy committed to international law and a terrorist organization that commits war crimes and directs its fire at civilians? The UN's comparisons only encourage terrorists to continue this type of attacks."
