US President Joe Biden remains in the home office in the White House.
The 79-year-old had tested positive again in a corona test, his doctor Kevin O'Connor reported.
Biden will continue to comply with strict isolation measures.
"The President continues to be very well," reported the medic.
'His cough has almost completely cleared up.
His temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation remain perfectly normal.
His lungs remain clear," O'Connor wrote in a memo.
Biden was released from isolation on Wednesday last week after testing positive for Covid for the first time on July 21.
Doctor O'Connor then wrote in a letter published by the White House that it was a "relapse" that had already been observed in rare cases in patients treated with the Covid drug Paxlovid.
Paxlovid is recommended for patients who are not seriously ill but are at high risk of being admitted to hospital, for example because of their age.
The tablet from the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer contains two active ingredients that are intended to inhibit virus replication in the body.
The fact that Covid disease can return shortly after treatment with the drug is known, but rarely happens.
In such cases, the US health authority CDC recommends a return to domestic isolation for five days.
