It wasn't just Raphael Mayrhofer's extraordinary baritone voice that caught the eye during the performance of the vocal ensemble "6 for Chords".

Gelting – Ambush landlady Assunta Tammelleo was not afraid of protests at the concert of a six-piece a cappella group, in which not only the extraordinary baritone voice of Raphael Mayrhofer caught the eye.

The Waldramer has been wearing dreadlocks for 15 years and stands by them.

The recent scandal surrounding the cancellation of a concert by the Swiss band "Lauwarm", which includes two white musicians with a similar head of hair, did not leave Tammelleo and Mayrhofer indifferent either.

For Mayrhofer, the discussion is going in a completely wrong direction

Neither of them can understand the accusation made by the organizers in Bern that wearing dreadlocks is an inappropriate cultural appropriation of a black population's symbol of resistance for white people.

"The discussion is going in the completely wrong direction, after all we all want a society characterized by diversity," said Mayrhofer when asked by our newspaper.

Tammelleo had his back.

"Canceling the concert was never an option for me," she clarified.

After all, it is also common practice at the Munich Oktoberfest, for example, for the city dwellers to dress in rural costumes and not be accused of unlawful cultural appropriation.

"6 for Chords" convince with creative arrangements

"It's a shame that this debate distracts from the musical qualities of the artists," regretted Tammelleo.

Because "6 for Chords" convinced at their concert in the ambush right from the start with creative arrangements and drew on their experience, which they acquired, for example, at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and in the Philharmonic Choir.

Participation in a master class with “The King's Singers” was also formative.

The soprano, mezzo-soprano and alto voices of the three female singers combine with the tenor, baritone and bass of the male band members.

This was particularly impressive with a medley from the multiple Oscar-winning film "La La Land", the Toto cover version of "Rosanna" and the Pharell Williams hit "Happy".

At the end, around 30 visitors were allowed to swing their hips with a swinging twist.

And some thought about booking this a cappella choir for a festive occasion.

"We also play at birthday parties, weddings, church services," promised Mayrhofer with a laugh.
