The sauna in the “Rigi-Rutsch'n” is being revamped: three saunas are being renovated, converted or expanded.

The employees of the health and spa park do a lot themselves.

Peißenberg - It was sad news for all friends of the sauna in the Peißenberg "Rigi-Rutsch'n": At the beginning of 2017, the board of directors of the Peißenberg municipal works decided that the sauna would be closed forever after the 2017/2018 winter season for cost reasons should.

The new log cabin sauna was only opened in November 2015 for around 670,000 euros.

After a fire a little later in the "Rigi-Slip'n" and after some back and forth, the decision was made to close the sauna forever.

But then the new director of the municipal works, Ingrid Haberl, was given a free hand by the board of directors as far as the future of the sauna was concerned, and she decided: the sauna will remain open - and in future even all year round.

"Rigi-Rutsch'n": Blockhouse sauna already in shape

Haberl leaves the municipal works in August.

As one of the last projects during her term of office, the sauna area was renovated and redesigned.

The log cabin sauna is already in shape.

This had been closed for a few weeks because no vapor barrier had been installed during construction, which is why the wood became more and more damp and began to rot.

"The beams got darker and darker and rotted through," says Johannes Meyer, lifeguard and head of bathing operations in the "Rigi-Rutsch'n".

A major refurbishment had become necessary, which fortunately was still a guarantee case.

"The roof had to be dismantled and all the beams had to be replaced," says Meyer.

In the course of this, new boards were also installed in the interior.

The work in the log cabin sauna is almost complete.

“We can switch back to full operation on August 8th,” says Meyer.

Although in the summer months, when it's hot and sunny, not all saunas are ever heated up anyway, explains the lifeguard.

That was the case before the energy shortage and it will stay that way.

Only on cold and rainy days is it different.

Apart from that, no further restrictions are planned.

However, the redesign will continue on September 6th.

Then the sauna, which was previously used as a bio sauna, will be converted into an adventure sauna: "We want to offer a tunnel sauna with around 20 seats," says the lifeguard.

"Rigi-Rutsch'n": farewell gift for Ingrid Haberl

When designing it, Peißenberg's past as a mining town should come into its own.

"We will design this sauna like a tunnel," says Meyer.

Here, too, a lot is done on our own.

"We'll take care of all the preparatory work," says the manager of the bathing establishment.

The conversion and redesign of this area into a tunnel sauna is expected to take six to eight weeks.

Between the reopening of the log cabin sauna and the start of the conversion work to the adventure sauna, the Finnish sauna will be converted into a bio sauna, which will then offer space for up to 14 sauna guests.

What has already proven itself this year is the ice fountain next to the plunge pool.

"The fact that there is real ice cream is very well received," says Meyer.

The fact that the employees of the "Rigi-Rutsch'n" do a lot of the work themselves is also a farewell gift to the outgoing board member Ingrid Haberl, says Meyer.

Haberl had long been concerned with getting the sauna area all round into shape.

Much has already been done in this respect, and other things have been set in motion.

"So that the sauna can run for at least the next 40 years," says Meyer.
