The aging population in Hong Kong is getting worse. Di Zhiyuan, a member of the Legislative Council of Social Welfare, said at a forum today (6th) that the government should take the lead in changing the public's concept of elderly care. Elderly services should not only cater for the needs of the elderly, but also Improve their quality of life and encourage them to contribute to society.
Di Zhiyuan suggested to provide elderly services in a case-based management model, and to design a tailor-made care plan for the elderly instead of using a unified standard to deal with the needs of different elderly.
Retired silver-haired people still have the ability to work
Di Zhiyuan pointed out that the public generally believes that the elderly are a group of people who need to be cared for, or even a burden, but in fact retirees are social assets, not necessarily a group waiting for support and care, or even capable of contributing to society.
He recalled a visit to a legal consultation center in the Mainland. One of the staff members was a silver-haired man. After talking to him, he learned that he was a retired judge, proving that even if he retired, he could serve the society.
He mentioned that the silver-haired market has huge potential, and the business community can also develop more products that can help improve their quality of life. The silver-haired life should also have a taste.
Elderly products need to match the application environment
Chen Zhiyu, chairman of the Elderly Services Association, said that the government needs to formulate KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for elderly care services, especially residential care services.
He also pointed out that the current transparency of residential care services is insufficient, and suggested that a rating system for residential care homes for the elderly should be established with reference to the practice of Guangdong Province.
Ren Jingxin, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberport, said that some elderly products have difficulties in application. For example, a scientific research company has developed a smart diaper, which will instruct the staff when the diaper is wet. This product is very popular overseas. However, because Hong Kong's elderly homes are used to changing diapers for all residents at a designated time, they are reluctant to use smart diapers.
