Tartous-Sana
The coastal region branch of the General Authority for Fisheries distributed 27,000 carp fingerlings for free to 192 beneficiaries from farmers in the villages and towns of Tartous Governorate.
The director of the coastal region branch in Tartous, Dr. Alaa Al-Sheikh Ahmed, told SANA reporter that the distribution process affected several areas of Tartous, Safita, Al-Draikish and Sheikh Badr, and lasted for three days in cooperation with the Tartous Agriculture Directorate, the Farmers’ Union, and party and civil activities.
Ahmed explained that the distribution of fingerlings was accompanied by a practical demonstration on how to farm fingerlings and the many benefits of small family fish farms.
Ahmed said that distributing fingerlings and awareness instructions about them are aimed at spreading the culture of fish farming among farmers and its importance in securing healthy food from animal protein to rural families and securing an additional source of income for them as small projects.
According to Ahmed, family fish farm projects encourage citizens to establish and license fish farms in larger areas as a result of having good experience through training in raising fish in their own watering ponds.
