Eleven people were killed and several others injured on Saturday morning in the accident of a Polish coach which veered off the road in northern Croatia, the Croatian Interior Ministry announced.

According to initial information, 11 people were killed and several others injured when the Polish-registered bus veered off the road
,” the ministry tweeted, without specifying the nationality of the passengers on this coach heading for Zagreb.

Earlier in the morning, a police spokesman, Matko Muric, told AFP that they were "
foreign nationals
".
"
The bus veered off course and slid into the ditch along the highway
," he said, adding that "
several dozen passengers were injured
."
The accident happened on a highway some 60 km north of Zagreb as the bus was heading towards the Croatian capital.
Croatia welcomes millions of tourists during the summer who go mainly to the Adriatic coast.
Polish tourists are among the most numerous there: between January and July, more than 580,000 Polish tourists visited Croatia.
In July 2021, ten Kosovo nationals were killed in a bus accident on a highway in eastern Croatia.
