Tanja Hertel from Dorfen started her fundraiser hike with the goat Loki a week ago.

She collects donations for Doctors Without Borders and is impressed by the generosity in the district of Erding.

Dorfen – “I can't believe it, people stop with their cars or run after me to give me donations.

I would never have thought that possible,” says Tanja Hertel, who has been traveling with Loki the goat since Monday.

She set out from Zeil near Buchbach for this four-week fundraiser for "Doctors Without Borders" because, as the leader of the children's island in Pretzen, she became aware of the needs on other continents through an African family (we reported).

"Loki and I are an attraction, we are received warmly everywhere," says the 50-year-old from Dorfen.

The first "hello and confetti" was on Monday at the campsite at Loaner Weiher.

"People had read about us in the newspaper and were already expecting us." The overnight stay at the campsite was free, the conversations in the evening were entertaining and a boy donated one euro, "his pocket money".

“I found that very touching,” says Hertel.

The night in the tent was exhausting, as was Friday at the kiosk at the Thenner Weiher.

"Tent is not an option, I've now decided that for myself," says the goat friend after the first week.

Goats are herd animals, Loki accepted Hertel as his mate.

That's why he doesn't want to sleep outside alone.

"He's scared."

The villager is nevertheless in good spirits, as she has already had such good experiences with accommodation in the district.

Her highlight on the second day was the overnight stay in a horse stable at "Bauern Joki" in Maierhof near Hohenpolding.

She was walking below the courtyard, quite thirsty and exhausted, when a voice from above called out, "Stop.

That's Loki!"

The overnight stay in the stables was quickly arranged.

Hiker and goat were provided with water and food and farmer "Joki" told bedtime stories from the past.

Freshly strengthened, the two of them headed towards Hohenpolding the next morning, where the two mayors ran into Alfons Beilhack, who was walking his dog.

He also knew about the two, invited them to his home for coffee, gave Hertel a “generous donation” and wished that the hiking duo would stop at the Hohenpolding kindergarten, which the little ones there especially like rejoiced.

Hertel actually only wanted to "pull through" Niedergeislbach, but things turned out differently.

Loki went limp in the middle of Main Street.

He refused to take a step further and bleated to himself.

This, in turn, was heard by the families in the neighboring residential area.

Young and old came running, photographed and petted Loki.

There was fresh water for the goat and a shower for the fundraiser.

"Incredible, they simply offered me their bathroom." One family then also knew a place to sleep.

In Hainberg, two kilometers away, the two found shelter in the garden shed on the Jell farm.

"It was very comfortable."

For the next day, Hertel had planned the Thenner Weiher.

"I really wanted to jump into a lake." Although the two made slow progress over the eleven kilometers - "I think I've told my story a hundred times in these five days" - the plan worked this time.

In the evening there was a cool bath for the goat leader.

In the meantime, Hertel had already received so many donations that her husband drove to the Thenner Weiher in the evening to pick them up.

"It's unbelievable that people trust me so much," she says happily.

As a reward for the successful start, yesterday was a "chill day" for Loki.
