With their tall growth, hollyhocks are quickly intimidating.
But with a little know-how, you can also keep the mallow plants in the bucket.
Hamburg - Colorful and large flowers, an impressive height of up to two meters, depending on the variety, and pretty leaves - the hollyhock is a real eye-catcher in the garden.
Anyone who is put off by the sheer size of the hollyhocks can breathe a sigh of relief: If the pot is big enough, you can easily grow the perennial in the bucket.

A member of the mallow family, hollyhocks are a true garden beauty.
From July to September, the perennials exude romantic Mediterranean flair with their upright growth and fine fragrance.
The good news is that growing hollyhocks from seed is very easy and of course cheaper than buying a plant from a garden centre.
Early autumn is suitable, because the hollyhocks are not allowed to go outside until next spring.
You should comply with the following steps:
1. From September you can place the seeds in a seed tray with nutrient-rich soil.
Then cover them with soil and water the future seedling well.
2. The seeds will germinate after about two to three weeks.
It is important that the cultivation vessel gets enough light.
3. As soon as the cultivation vessel is too small, you should separate the hollyhocks.
4. In the spring, the plants are then allowed to move into buckets and thus outside.
The buckets should have a diameter of at least 40 centimeters and a capacity of 40 liters.

Like all mallow plants, hollyhocks love sunny locations.
According to the Norddeutscher Rundfunk ("NDR"), hollyhocks in this country are usually more than just two years old and can overwinter.
The plant has better chances if the perennials are cut before hibernation immediately after flowering.
To do this, use sharp scissors or a knife and cut the stalk about ten to twelve centimeters above the ground.
Alternatively, you can remove the individual faded flowers.
