The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has renewed its full support and cooperation in implementing countermeasures taken by the central Chinese authorities in response to the visit of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, to Taiwan.
Xinhua quoted a HKSAR government spokesman as saying that the HKSAR government firmly opposes any interference by outside forces in China's internal affairs, and will fully support and cooperate to implement all necessary measures taken by the central government to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The spokesman added that the HKSAR government will closely monitor developments and keep in touch with the authorities in the central government.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the imposition of sanctions on Pelosi and her family, while the Ministry of Defense announced that large-scale military exercises will be held in the vicinity of Taiwan, which will continue until next Sunday.
