(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 06 - Maturity 2022: record of 100 with honors.

   But the Invalsi tests take away the credibility of these results: this is what a study by the specialized journal Tuttoscuola shows.

In fact, the 2022 maturity was characterized by a further increase in the number of graduates with 100 cum laude ("honors"): 16,384, 1,147 more than last year, with increases distributed almost one-way in favor of the Mezzogiorno regions (plus 1,344) and , on the contrary, decreases for the northern regions (minus 279).

   Overall, 3.2% of graduates achieved honors, more than double compared to three years ago (1.5%), triple compared to 2015-16 (1.1%) and more than five times in 2011-12 (0, 6%), year in which for the first time, with the entry into force of the upper secondary school reform, honors were awarded only if the pupil had achieved the maximum academic credit score.

   Since then, the incidence of pupils awarded with honors has always increased, taking off in the years of Covid.

    There are 1,053 excellent students from Lombardy who in 2022 graduated with 100 cum laude in the high school exam.

   Just under the 1,149 who reached the same milestone in Calabria.

The difference is that 74,144 graduates in Lombardy (so only 1.4% were rated with the highest number of votes), in Calabria 18,477 (6.2% received honors).

In other words, in Lombardy only one student out of 70 has been assessed as deserving of praise, in Calabria one out of 16. Followed by Puglia with one in 17, Umbria with one in 21 and Sicily with one in 22. After all, just before Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia with a graduate with honors every 56, Veneto with 52 and Piedmont with 50.

   Data that testify to the non-homogeneity of the evaluation criteria on the national territory.

It should be emphasized that Italian universities with limited number courses always rely less on the high school grade in the admission selection criteria.

    But the surveys administered with the Invalsi tests show an Italy exactly overturned in the excellent levels of competence compared to what emerges from the evaluations of Italian teachers in the various provinces and regions.

Calabria ranks first nationally in terms of the percentage of graduates with honors but it is last in the levels of learning detected by the Invalsi in the last year of high school in terms of percentages of students with excellent results.

How is it possible that there is such a macroscopic distance? This year's Invalsi data on the levels of excellence of fifth-year secondary school students seem to take away credibility from many of those praises awarded in maturity 2022, especially in the southern regions.

   In fact, students from Calabria, Campania, Sicily, Puglia and Sardinia do not appear in the 5th level (excellence) of the test of Italian Invalsi of the 5th year of high school;

those of Abruzzo, Lazio, Molise and Basilicata are at the minimum level of excellence;

the remaining regions are placed in a medium-high position, with Lombardy and Friuli VG, as well as Val d'Aosta and Trentino-Alto Adige, at the top.

   In the 5th level (excellence) of the mathematics test all the regions are inserted with Sardinia, Calabria, Sicily, Campania, Lazio and Abruzzo at the minimum limit of the level and, in any case, below the national average;

the remaining regions are above average and at the top, in addition to Val d'Aosta and Trentino-AltoAdige, Lombardy, Friuli VG and Veneto.

   Taking into account these results and those of English (reading and listening), Invalsi has drawn up the ranking of excellent students (which does not mean all "praiseworthy", which represents absolute excellence) at the end of the second grade secondary school, which sees in the last places Calabria and Campania with 5%, preceded by Sicily (6%), Sardinia (7%), Puglia (8%), Basilicata (9%);

instead at the top, in addition to Vald'Aosta and Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli VG (24%), Lombardy (22%), Veneto (21%).

   All the Northern Regions better in the Invalsi tests than in praise;

the reverse for all the Southern Regions. (ANSA).
