Some of the storm damage from the past week is taking longer to repair.

Among other things, the Berg nature kindergarten in Höhenrain and the Höhenrain Maypole were also affected.

Höhenrain

– It's dangerous in the forest during a storm: the children of the Berg nature kindergarten had to experience this up close.

The trailer of the kindergarten, which only opened in May, was hit by a tree.

The good news: operations continue, as kindergarten director Robin Sue Neininger says.

But repairing the tin roof of the car is difficult.

"We were very lucky," says Neininger, who together with Uli Stock is currently looking after nine children and from September 16 children in the forest near Höhenrain.

"An oak tree fell on our car - it was the only tree that fell in the area." It was fortunate that only the kitchen area was hit and the tree was not completely snapped off.

So he didn't land on the car with his whole weight.

"All the windows are in, normal operation is possible," says Neininger.

"I'm glad nothing more happened.

Our wood-burning stove was thrown away by the impact, it was lying on the other side.” Only the tin roof needs to be repaired.

But finding someone to do it is difficult, as the kindergarten operators have found out.

At the end of the week, someone who restores vintage cars is coming, reports the teacher.

You have no idea who can fix the sheet metal.

It is also not important that the dent in the roof of the car disappears completely.

The costs are also unclear.

At the council meeting, CSU councilor Georg Schuster asked whether the community had insurance for such cases.

She hasn't, replied Mayor Rupert Steigenberger.

"I assume that the operators have insured the trailer."

They don't, says Robin Sue Neininger.

"We didn't get any insurance because the car isn't a building or a vehicle." She wants to approach the municipality for financial support, but first she wants to wait and see how high the costs are.

At the request of Starnberger Merkur, community manager Erik Fiedler promised financial support.

He had organized the construction yard on Tuesday, which uncovered the car again.

That was very helpful, says Neininger.

"They first lifted the tree and then crushed it - the other way around it would have caused even more damage." She now hopes that the classic car specialist can help and also prepare a cost estimate.

The Maibaum in Höhenrain has less prospect of community support.

The tree remained standing during the storm, but the rails were bent by the force of the storm, Steigenberger said on request.

The tree has since been removed for safety reasons.

The mayor assumes that the foundation will also have to be redone.

At the meeting, he recalled a similar case in Berg.

"At that time the maypole fell on a neighboring building, the rails were bent and the concrete foundation had to be redone." That was around 1990.

At the time, Steigenberger was a head boy.

Generous donations would have expedited the repairs, he said at the council meeting.

"Something comparable will also be needed in Höhenrain."
