Penzberg – It was a double goodbye to the vocational school for nursing and geriatric care at the Rummelsberger Diakonie in Penzberg.

The ten graduates of the three-year geriatric nursing training wrote history, so to speak, at the Penzberg vocational school.

The seven women and three men were the last year to enjoy the classic training - from the next school year this will take place in a general concept, without specific distinctions in different care areas.

"An era is coming to an end," said the headmaster, Deacon Stephan Meuß.

In addition, 16 graduates of the one-year training course to become nursing assistants received their certificates.

Personally learned a lot

There was a lot of praise and recognition for everyone that day, after all, the students had to study in hard times of the pandemic.

"You have mastered and achieved an incredible amount," Meuß acknowledged the commitment.

The graduates have achieved a great deal, not only in a professional sense, but also personally.

They had learned a flexibility that would also prove itself "in an unclear and uncertain future" - after all, the care landscape is also changing, the headmaster recalled.

Meuß advised his former protégés not to play the lone wolf, but to focus on what they had in common ("mutual claims").

Basically, however, the graduates do not have to worry about their professional future, the 26 graduates heard from the speakers at the graduation ceremony, which was accompanied by music by Nidia Striem.

"They are a sought-after target group," explained Deacon Christian Oerthel, the head of the "Vocational Schools and Social Studies" department at the Diakonie headquarters in Rummelsberg.

Renate Janker from the training team compared it to a long hike, which they all successfully completed to the finish.

The certificate holders can now expect a "huge network of paths," Janker called out encouragingly.

The graduates:

Elderly care:

Merlinda Hasani (BRK SeniorenWohnen, Oberammergau), Martina Heimisch (Care Team Janker Penzberg), Magnus Kroczek (Retirement and Nursing Home Lenzheim, Garmisch-Partenkirchen), Lisa-Marie Ladurner (AWO-Seniorenpark Dießen), Artur Niwka (Help in old age, Rupert Mayer Seniorenheim Seehof, Kochel), Alexandra Reinhardt (Christian Ott outpatient nursing service, Murnau), Julia Sacher (AWO senior citizens' center of the city of Penzberg), Sebastian Schwaiger (Municipal Citizens' Home Weilheim), Carola Wiener (Care Team Janker, Penzberg).

Nursing assistant:

Adriana da Alves (Senior Living at Haus am Park, Bad Tölz), Marija Barisic (ASB Casa Vital, Isar-Loisach Wolfratshausen Senior Citizens' Home), Christina-Rodica Blattner (Weilheim Municipal Home), Heike Drews (Lenzheim Retirement and Nursing Home, Garmisch-Partenkirchen) , Mira Ebert (RDA Steigenberger Hof, Penzberg), Angelika Geßler (Klinikum Garmisch-Partenkirchen), Mohammad Hadji Habib (Hospital Penzberg), Sandra Kastner (RDA Steigenberger Hof, Penzberg), Susan Lehnert (Klinikum Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Christin Nadler (Kreisklinik Wolfratshausen), Patricia Poller (Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic), Roman Schubert (Blau Weiss Nursing Service Ohlstadt/Murnau), Verena Sonner (Bad Heilbrunn Specialist Clinic), Anita Then (Bad Heilbrunn Specialist Clinic), Bernard Tutic (Wolfratshausen District Clinic).

Permission for publication was not obtained for all names.

"A win" for Penzberg

Penzberg's second mayor Markus Bocksberger (PM) took the opportunity to "take his hat off" to the prospective nursing staff.

After all, they would work in a job that is equally physically and psychologically demanding.

"They are an asset for Penzberg and for our country." And that everything on conditions whose "payment still needs improvement", as he emphasized.

However, Bocksberger also acknowledged the importance and role of the local vocational school for more than two decades: This is "an integral and high-quality part" of the city's educational offering.

The Evangelische Diakonie also operates the neighboring senior and nursing home Steigenberger Hof.

Rummelsberger has been caring for seniors in Penzberg since 1970, and in 2002 the old building was replaced by a new building.

It was a special moment for the principal as well as for the graduates.

Stephan Meuß, Middle Franconia from Altdorf, who took up his post at the Penzberg vocational school on September 1, 2014, will retire as principal on August 31.

Meuß committed himself "with a lot of passion and competence", the head of department Oerthel praised the retiring head of school.

In September, the 57-year-old Meuß will switch to teaching at the specialist academy at the Diakonie headquarters in Schwarzenbruck, in central Franconia.

The Rummelsberger Diakonie is one of the largest diaconal organizations in Bavaria.

The group includes outpatient and inpatient services for youth, integration and elderly people as well as schools and training centers.

Successor from Penzberg

Meuß's successor as headmaster will be Christine Zürr from Penzberg on September 1st.

She comes from the school administration of the Asklepios training center for health professions in Bad Tölz.
