A 71-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old seriously injured in a microlight accident in Saint-Paul, in the west of Reunion Island, on Saturday afternoon, a-t- we learned from the emergency services.
The microlight crashed in the immediate vicinity of the runway where the aircraft was preparing to land, said a source close to the aeronautical community.
The deceased septuagenarian was an instructor pilot and had many hours of flight, according to the same source.
The young man, who is in a state of absolute emergency according to the emergency services, is also a pilot.
An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

The last crash involving a microlight on this Indian Ocean island occurred at Maïdo, a mountain peak in western Reunion, on October 10, 2021. A pilot and his passenger had lost their lives.
