At the weekend, thunderstorms and storms will pass over Bavaria.

It's getting noticeably cooler.

But the rainy weather doesn't last long.

Munich – One heat wave chases the next.

At the moment you can only cool down in the nearest outdoor pool or ice cream parlour.

But at least in the short term there is a change in the weather in Bavaria.

This is accompanied by an enormous drop in temperature and severe storms.

After the thunderstorm interlude, however, it's already hot and dry again.

Severe weather in Bavaria: Friday can be uncomfortable

Thursday, August 4 will go down in the books again in many places as one of the hottest days of the year.

Up to 40 degrees were measured on the Rhine.

And in Bavaria it didn't look much different.

On the lower Main, temperatures also rose above 35 degrees.

With such values, tropical nights – i.e. nights in which the temperatures do not fall below 20 degrees – are a logical consequence.

Especially in the cities, the heat is stored so strongly that it can hardly cool down there.

But it also remains oppressively warm on the Main and Danube.

But the cooling is coming.

On Friday, a band of thunderstorms will move from the west to Bavaria.

While it gets really hot again during the day, a drop in temperature is already in the starting blocks.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the values rise again to 27 degrees in the Rhön and 35 degrees in the southern Upper Palatinate.

The state capital Munich is in the middle with 31 degrees.

From the afternoon, however, the risk of thunderstorms continues to increase.

The DWD already warns on its homepage.

"Local heavy rain of around 20 l/sqm in a short time, stormy gusts of around 70 km/h and small hail.

Small-scale storms with heavy rain of around 40 l/sqm and severe gusts of wind up to 100 km/h are likely.” During the night it will rain in many places.

First it loosens up in Franconia.

The values vary greatly in Bavaria, between eleven and 19 degrees.

Drop in temperature in the south, full sun in the north

Saturday starts rainy in the south of the Free State.

Here the temperatures tumble the most compared to the previous days.

In Berchtesgaden the thermometer should remain at 19 degrees.

In Munich - under thick rain clouds - it will be 23 degrees.

Only in predominantly dry Franconia are values above 25 degrees already being reached again.

A few drops can come down again near the Alps on Sunday.

The values in the southern half are between 22 and 26 degrees.

In the north, the sun shines intensely again, with top values in Bamberg and Würzburg of 27 degrees.

The meteorologist Dominik Jung knows why it will only be a short rain interlude.

“The blocking high on the Atlantic will be in top form again from Saturday.

There is exactly ZERO for Atlantic rain lows with cool air masses to get through.” And there is no improvement in sight.

"Normally, the heat of midsummer is used to drive evaporation, but when there is nothing left to evaporate, this heat is simply used to further heat up." Only long-lasting rain can help.

But it looks more like we could be getting the hottest summer since 1881.
