On video: IDF attack in the Gaza Strip (photo: Yedioth from the field on Telegram)

The head of the operations department in the IDF, Major General Oded Basiouk, said this evening (Saturday) in a statement to the media that "the entire security top of the military arm of the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip - has been foiled." This, after the assassination of Khaled Mansour, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad and commander The southern region of Gaza on behalf of the organization. Mansour was killed a day after Taysir Jabari, the commander of the jihad in the north of the Gaza Strip.

Immediately after Jabari's assassination, Mansor became the most senior and experienced military figure in the organization, and at the end of a hunt that lasted only 30 hours, the Shin Bet managed to vote About a hiding apartment in Rafah, where he hid together with another senior official, Ahmed Al Modelal.

After his identity was verified and the green light for action was given, the Air Force launched missiles at the building, which collapsed.

The Palestinian public hastened to reach the place and clear the ruins.

A short time later, Ziad al-Modalal, the son of Ahmed al-Modalal, was identified among the ruins - something that was supported by Shin Bet intelligence, according to which senior officials of the organization were present in the apartment.

The search is still ongoing among the ruins and the intelligence community in Israel is waiting for an official announcement from the jihad about the elimination of the two.

If it turns out that the two were killed, this is a significant intelligence and operational success for the Shin Bet and the IDF.

Locating the hiding apartment, despite the high ranking of the wanted man, is a moral blow that will severely damage the Islamic Jihad, and may even disrupt its decision-making process, and it can be estimated that a cease-fire is imminent.

More than a week ago, the Shin Bet pointed to Mansour as being responsible for organizing the anti-tank attacks against Israel, and against the background of this concern, it was decided to put the Western Negev on security alert and close roads.

The Shin Bet and the IDF were looking for pieces of information that would lead to his hiding place so that when the moment came it would be possible to eliminate him with targeted countermeasures, as apparently happened tonight.

Mansour, 47 years old, born in Rafah, in his previous position was in charge of the anti-tank system of the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip. He was involved in a series of attacks, and over the years he cooperated with two key figures from Hamas with whom he grew up on the streets of Rafah, Ra'ad al-Attar and Mahmoud Abu Shamallah, who were killed in a hiding apartment during Operation Tzuk Eitan in the summer of 2014.

Mansour was involved in a long series of attacks, especially before the disengagement from Gush Katif. He was responsible for placing the explosive device that hit the southern brigade, Col. Pinky Zoertz, who lost his leg from the explosion.
