Alex Jones, who founded the website Info Wars where he promoted delusional theories such as the one that claimed that dozens of children and teachers were not murdered at the "Sandy Hook" school about a decade ago, will pay damages for defaming the families

A jury in a Texas court on Friday ordered Alex Jones - who founded a right-wing conspiracy website called Info Wars - to pay one of the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook school massacre in Connecticut $45.2 million in damages for the mental anguish caused to her.

Jones, who spread a conspiracy theory that the killing spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 - in which more than 25 students and teachers were killed in what was described as the deadliest incident ever inside an American school - was faked by the US federal government (under President then Barack Obama) so that the agenda of the Democratic Party can be promoted in regards to reducing the right to carry personal weapons.

Jones was sued civilly by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose son Jesse Lewis was among the 20 children killed (six teaching staff were also killed).

In the lawsuit, the parents demanded compensation of 150 million dollars from Jones.

In recent years, Jones has been under sharp criticism from various sources in the US in light of the extreme theories he spread, which caused the confiscation of his website by various technology companies.

Jesse's mother - who at the time of the massacre saved many of his classmates when he told them to run away from the killer Adam Lanza, who was apparently mentally disturbed - said she thought about her son's act of heroism during the decision reading in court "and I hope he is an inspiration to others".

Jones' lawyers said he intends to appeal and seek a dramatic reduction in the amount of damages.

There is another lawsuit pending in Texas against Jones by the family of another massacre victim, in addition to another lawsuit in Connecticut.

During the civil trial, Jones said his company would not face damages exceeding $2 million.

During the trial, Jones also said that he regrets what he said and that "the massacre was 100 percent real", but on the other hand, the parents stated that following the hatred he spread about the massacre, they received threats on their lives and other types of systematic harassment, and experts claimed that the parents were suffering from trauma as a result.
