The Very Short Story Association in Syria held its twelfth meeting, in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture and the branch of the Arab Writers Union in Tartous, in the hall of the cultural center in the city.

In his speech, the Director of Culture in the Governorate, Kamal Badran, drew attention to the prestigious position of the very short story among literary genres and the importance of cultural activities to allow the intellectual to speak his word and for the festivals and cultural forums to remain stations for acquaintance, a beacon of knowledge and a platform for creators.

In an exclusive statement to SANA, the association's president, Dr. Muhammad Yassin Sobeih, pointed out the importance of the forum in its twelfth session, which includes readings by about 14 writers, including the three winners, in addition to critical readings and interventions by a number of writers.

In his intervention, the head of the Arab Writers Union branch in Tartous, Munther Issa, gave an explanation of the origin and development of the short story and what social, cultural, political and other variables played in its development over three decades, the difference between it and storytelling, and the positive impact of social networking sites on its spread.

The winner of the first place in the competition, the storyteller Haitham Zaytoun, for his text, a family concerto, in which he projected the musical reality on social situations.

Safaa Al-Khadour from Homs Governorate, who won second place for a geography text, considered that the very short story allows the writer the opportunity to formulate and communicate the idea to the reader in a smooth way far from puzzles and ambiguity.

Mustafa Shakra from Lattakia Governorate, who shared the second place with Safaa, said that his literary inclinations and admiration for the art of the very short story prompted him to participate for the first time in the forum through the text “Lost” and tells the story of a mother who lost her children during this war.

Haitham Hindi, who won the third place in this session, pointed out in his ambiguous text that he dealt with some terms, concepts and slogans that have not been agreed upon so far.
