The Department of Agricultural Education, in cooperation with the Departments of Plant Protection and Biological Control in the Directorate of Agriculture in Damascus Countryside, carried out a training course targeting technicians in Arna village in Qatana region to introduce the concept of integrated management of apple crop pests and methods of control.
The 5-day course aims to raise the competencies of technicians and develop their skills to enable them to provide greater benefit to farmers in the region, according to the Director of Agriculture in Damascus Countryside, Engineer Irfan Ziadeh.
Ziadeh stated to SANA reporter that the course’s topics focused on how to safely use pesticides and the role of using pheromone traps and biological control in integrated pest management, pointing out that it also included the implementation of a training field day for farmers in the area to introduce the dangers of indiscriminate use of pesticides and how to obtain a product that is free from pesticide effects and matches health conditions.
Ziada confirmed that the second batch of insect parasites, Trigrama and Bragon, was launched to control the second generation apple worm in the areas of Zabadani, Qatana and Harmon in the experimental extension fields extending over an area of 8 dunums to expand work in the field of biological control and disseminate it among farmers because of its importance in protecting the crop.
