The 34th Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Outstanding Student Election Award Presentation Ceremony was held today (6th). This year, the theme of the election was "Ahead of the Epidemic", and 10 outstanding students were selected from about 200 contestants.

The winners have their own characteristics. Among them, Yang Jingcheng, who studied at Peiqiao College, only came to Hong Kong to study in the first year.

Another outstanding student, Zhong Lexi, described himself as avocado, which impressed the judges.

The theme of this year's edition is "Advance Against the Epidemic". The campus life of the students has been greatly affected by the epidemic, and various efforts are required to adjust to adapt to the new normal.

This year, about 200 application forms were received, and the top ten outstanding students were finally selected through recommendation from the school and professional review from all walks of life.

Born in Foshan, Guangdong, I understand the differences between Chinese and Hong Kong cultures and ask my classmates to teach English with humility

Yang Jingcheng, who studied at Peiqiao Academy, was born in Foshan, Guangdong. He came to Hong Kong to study in the first year of secondary school, and then spent two years acquiring fluent Cantonese.

He said that under the background of different times, the cultures of China and Hong Kong are indeed quite different, but he quoted Confucius's "gentleman who is harmonious but different", and believes that even if they are not the same, they can still learn from each other's advantages, and they can also help each other with their own advantages. : "For example, I will humbly ask friends who are good at English, and I will also help them when they have problems with classical Chinese."

Yang Jingcheng actively participates in community activities, and once represented the school to go to schools in mountainous areas in the Mainland to conduct volunteer teaching.

As for his future goals, he hopes to achieve good results in the HKDSE and meet the score requirements for admission to quantitative finance.

An award-winning student used avocado as a metaphor: it seems ordinary but it is not flashy

Another outstanding student, Chung Lexi, is studying at Po Leung Kuk Law School. He is also a Form 5 student and hopes to work in the finance or I&T industry in the future. He believes that Hong Kong needs I&T talents to be able to stand on the international stage.

Zhong Lexi likened avocados to himself, "Avocados may seem unremarkable, but they are actually full of nutrients, and they are not flashy. This is my motto." In addition, he believes that in the pursuit of progress, it is necessary to maintain firm determination and not be easily discouraged, just like Avocados have the same hard core.

He is grateful to have this opportunity to meet other outstanding students. Compared with winning awards, learning from others and honing leadership skills is the biggest gain, which is beneficial to serve the society in the future.

Yan Bohao, an outstanding student who can best experience this year's theme "Advance the Epidemic", was unfortunately diagnosed earlier. He said that under isolation, he can pay more attention to the care and encouragement of his family members.

He believes that the epidemic has made him grow up, learn to adjust his mentality, stay positive, have the opportunity to reflect on himself during the illness, and learn to wait and insist on himself.

He is a student at the Pui Kee College of the Hong Kong Trustees and hopes to study global business in the future, which has broadened his horizons.
