In 2022, the Wacken Open Air, which is steeped in tradition, is apparently struggling with major starting difficulties.

Did visitors even have to drink sewage?

Wacken - For many visitors at the traditional Wacken Open Air, two things have priority: metal and beer.

The sensible ones don't forget non-alcoholic liquids and food.

But while there was plenty of music at the start of the festival in 2022, there was a problem with the supply of liquid and solid food.

In other words: Endlessly long queues and waiting times.

The festival fans are furious!

There was already a lot going on in Wacken on Thursday - but the temperatures were high.

Wacken Open Air 2022: Long queues for wristbands and drinks

On the one hand, there were problems with staff coordination, and on the other hand, the new payment system caused stress.

Cash is a thing of the past in Wacken, instead visitors are given a wristband with a plastic chip.

According to Bild.de

, visitors had to wait up to four hours

to get it .

A Twitter user reported waiting 1:15 hours for her and filmed part of the queue (see below).

And then the next queues followed at the drink stands - some fans report that they sometimes had to wait for an hour.

Wacken Open Air 2022: speaker apologizes for problems

A Wacken spokesman concedes to

Bild.de

that "the coordination of the responsible staff apparently did not work out optimally" and adds: "We apologize for this and regret that some fans were not able to enjoy the first day as usual."

The result: thirst among many visitors.

And not just thirst for beer, after all, sufficient water intake is a must at the high temperatures.

Even the Schleswig-Holstein police pointed this out in a tweet on Wednesday: “Dear metal heads, the sun is currently burning and it is extremely warm.

Treat yourself to a drink in between, so that the heat doesn’t get to your head even when you’re headbanging.”

And the Wacken team also discussed the importance of fluid intake via Facebook, among other things.

The well-intentioned posting backfired, because there were a whole series of complaints about the general beverage situation, both about the free water points and the food stands.

The reactions have it all: "Unfortunately, there are far too few drinking water points on the festival site," they say.

Another visitor writes: “Hire a little staff, with a waiting time of more than 1 hour. It's difficult to get enough drinks at the drinks stands.

To be honest, the organization is a disaster this year.

One has the impression that this is the first time you have organized a festival.”

A visitor also leaves out: "Total crap this year, really," she writes.

“We want/should drink and sometimes wait an hour no matter where.

It's really sad." And a Wacken fan says: "Unfortunately, the festival mainly consists of waiting in line for hours for drinks, it's cheeky given the temperatures."

Drinking became a challenge for some in Wacken.

Wacken Open Air 2022: Did visitors even have to drink used water from sinks in toilets?

One user even reports that visitors drink waste water from sinks because they are so thirsty.

That hasn't been confirmed, but it doesn't sound like it was made up either: "You're funny.

The water is sold out at the Farmers Market.

There are hardly any water points, and those that exist are overcrowded.

People drink the service water from the washbasins near the toilets and stand in line for it.

We even just brought canisters of water to the Wastelandwarriors because they're about to nibble.

Just a disgrace, Wacken Open Air 2022!”

And then someone who has the best possible supply of drinks speaks up: "I have my Wackööön at home on Magenta TV." The colleagues from 24hamburg.de have summarized how you can watch Wacken live on the telly - along with others Info.

In an unusual incident in Wacken, a Bundeswehr tank was severely damaged.
