After the heat, it gets uncomfortable in large parts of Germany at night: Hamburg and the south of Schleswig-Holstein have already been hit by strong summer thunderstorms.

According to the police, there was storm damage, fallen trees and covered roofs.

Rail traffic was also affected.

Lightning also caused several fires.

While lightning struck the roof ridge of an apartment building in Hamburg-Heimfeld in the early evening, a basement fire broke out in Ellerbek in the Pinneberg district.

A restaurant in an adjacent building had been evacuated as a precaution, said a police spokeswoman.

In both cases, however, no one was harmed.

Numerous operations were also carried out in the Ostholstein, Lauenburg and Stormarn areas, according to a spokesman for the southern control center in Lübeck.
