Bernhard Mittermeier unfortunately changes the side of the street: The innkeeper of the Kirchenwirt died and is buried in the church cemetery across the way.

Obituary for an original.

Anzing – Bernhard Mittermeier was what is called a “brand”: an original that didn't fit into any category;

a man who did not hide his opinion and who was simply sociable and a good friend to many.

across generations.

Just like as a passionate landlord.

Since 2005 he was the "Kirchenwirt" of Anzing, manager of the tavern of the same name near the church.

Now, unfortunately, he is changing sides of the street: On Friday, August 12, Bernhard Mittermeier will be buried in the church cemetery, and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the church.

The innkeeper with body and soul died unexpectedly at the age of 55.

On a bike tour in Austria.

One of his hobbies, besides motorcycling.

Anzing: Head of the Kirchenwirt since 2005

He actually trained as a carpenter, but just two years after completing his training, Bernhard Mittermeier took over the legendary Café Mittermeier in Poing, which he ran from 1986 to 2004.

He organized cult parties and festivals there and was one of the first innkeepers to open on Christmas Eve.

For all those who were alone at Christmas or who simply wanted to be in good company after the presents.

When it came to festivals, Bernhard Mittermeier was creative and made many people happy with events such as the erection of the maypole in Garkofen or the "Lousn & Fagge carnival ball" in Anzing.

His motto: Don't think twice, do it!

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

In 2005 he took over the Kirchenwirt in Anzing with his wife Gabriele Stadler (both have four children and four grandchildren).

A rustic, cozy Bavarian inn that the two have refurbished over the years and made it a place of well-being that is not only popular with people from Anzing.

And it will remain so: his family continues to run the inn, which is also now open.

And in which, after the funeral, good friends and invited guests will come together for a last party for and somehow also with Bernhard Mittermeier (whom many called “Bernie” or “Barne”).

"Bernhard would definitely have wanted it that way," says Barbara Stadler.

That people still come together socially now, after his death.

Just as he was sociable and did a lot to make people feel good, that they have joy and a reason to laugh.

His laughter will be missed, not only in the Kirchenwirt, but in Anzing in general.
