Tehran-Sana
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian discussed, during a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, regional and international developments and the latest developments in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli aggression against it and the nuclear negotiations in Vienna.
Iran's IRNA news agency quoted Abdullahian as saying: "Some countries deal with the NPT selectively, and therefore the unimplemented aspects of this treaty, such as the necessity of nuclear disarmament and the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, should receive serious attention." Expressing his country's readiness to continue constructive cooperation in this path.
Abdullahian also reiterated that there is no place for nuclear weapons in his country's creed as it contradicts its policies and beliefs.
On the negotiations in Vienna, the Iranian foreign minister said: “We have a serious and real will to reach a strong and sustainable agreement,” pointing out that the serious follow-up to the negotiations is taking place today, and that its outcome depends on America’s desire or unwillingness to reach an agreement and the level of flexibility and realism it shows in it.
Abdullahian explained that Iran continues to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which must fully resolve the remaining safeguards issues.
On the other hand, Abdullahian stressed the need for the international community to stop the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip immediately.
Regarding the Yemeni crisis, Abdullahian expressed his support for the continuation of the cease-fire in Yemen with the full lifting of the humanitarian siege on it.
For his part, Guterres stressed the need to remove nuclear weapons from the world and establish a zone free of weapons of mass destruction. He said, "The nuclear negotiations are very important for us, and we have asked the parties participating in them to show more flexibility at this stage." For the European and American sides as well.”
