The American president was able to leave the White House this Sunday after a week of confinement for his second home in Dela

After a week of strict isolation, US President Joe Biden left the White House on Sunday after testing negative for Covid-19 for the second day in a row, the presidency announced.

The septuagenarian leader can now go to public events "safely" and resume his travels, said his doctor Kevin O'Connor in a letter.

“I feel good,” the Democratic president assured reporters with a smile a few moments before taking a helicopter to his second home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, his first trip outside the American capital since July 20.

He also said he was optimistic about the adoption in the Senate on Sunday of a new version of his major social and climate reform.

“I think it will be adopted,” he said.

A Monday visit to Kentucky

According to his official agenda, Joe Biden must travel Monday in the American state of Kentucky, victim of devastating floods.

Tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time on July 21, Joe Biden had tested negative, then suffered a "rebound" of positivity on July 30.

He had returned to solitary confinement to “protect” those around him.

“The president has not experienced a re-emergence of symptoms and continues to feel completely well,” the doctor said.

“There is therefore no reason to resume treatment (of Paxlovid, editor’s note) at this stage”, continued Kevin O’Connor on July 30.
