In Waldram and Bad Tölz, the number of students is falling.

Family advisor Heidi Dodenhöft warns against reducing capacities at middle schools.

Geretsried – The city's efforts to merge the two locations of the middle school on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße and expand them to five trains are still pending approval from the school authorities.

"We're waiting for it," reported Heidi Dodenhöft (free voters) at the last city council meeting before the summer break.

As a consultant for family, school and education, the currently pressing issues converge with her.

Geretsried: Dodenhöft makes a plea for middle school

With a view to falling student numbers in Waldram and Bad Tölz, Dodenhöft promoted the middle school.

"Children have every opportunity there and can learn under good conditions," says the principal of the Reichersbeuern primary school.

She warned against reducing capacities.

Against the background of the corona pandemic, many children were sent to high school as a precaution.

But "some of them come back," reported the city council officer.

Furthermore, the working group on childcare and schools deals with the two elementary schools in Geretsried.

The city expects 600 children per facility by 2025/26.

Both would then be six trains, announced Dodenhöft.

"We won't be able to avoid the third elementary school." Another construction site is the day care center.

A new one is planned on Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Strasse.

But "the rooms are not the problem, there is a lack of staff," says the speaker.

However, this is not only an issue in Geretsried.

Dodenhöft thanked the city council for showing a lot of understanding for schools and daycare centers.

Many events for families and young people

In her report, the city council officer also recalled many successful events.

All parents of the 233 babies born in 2021 were invited to a welcome afternoon.

"Not that many come," admitted Dodenhöft.

Nevertheless, it is important to offer the families information and getting to know each other as early as possible.

City officials planted a tree with the children who were born two years ago.

"It was a really nice campaign." Dodenhöft also praised the children's and youth day.

"A big thank you to the sponsoring association." It was also great that the youth council moderated some of it.

In general, something is going on there with youth officer Felix Leipold and city youth worker Julia Brandner.

A new service is being offered this summer vacation (we reported).

In addition, Dodenhöft promoted the reading day in the city library (November 18) and the family pass, with which parents and children can get discounts in the city.
