The conservative movement has chained itself to the ex-president.
And he needs his foot soldiers for his revenge campaign against the hated democrats.

He was celebrated by most of the audience for his clumsy slogans.
A majority of Republicans still support Trump.
But his lead is no longer as great as it was months ago.

Not appearing here is Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, Donald Trump's closest rival within the Republican Party at the moment. A man who is already ahead of Donald Trump in the polls in some states. Mike Pence, the former vice president, did not appear. Nicky Healy, the former governor of South Carolina, didn't perform."
Much will depend in the coming weeks on how Georgia's Jan. 6 hearings or vote-rigging trial goes.
Trump will continue to try to portray himself as a victim.
If that doesn't work, the Republicans could actually drop the ex-president.
Fans at the CPAC also waited in vain for Trump's official announcement of a candidacy for 2024.
