The Israeli army has innovated by launching since Friday a preventive operation against Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.
For the first time, the Jewish state has acknowledged having taken the lead without justifying its attacks by firing rockets into Israeli territory.
Another original element: Israel spares Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, by betting on the neutrality of this Islamist movement before a ceasefire proposed by Egypt intervenes.
It all started last Monday with the capture by the Israeli army of an Islamic Jihad leader in the northern West Bank.
The organization, supported by Iran, Israel's number one enemy, immediately threatened to launch reprisals.
The threat was taken very seriously.
The circulation of cars and trains has been banned in Israeli localities adjoining the Gaza Strip.
Tens of thousands of Israelis have been called to remain sealed off in their homes,
“taken hostage”
