Up to 100,000 people make a pilgrimage to the Munich trade fair on Saturday.

Occasion: Andreas Gabalier's open-air concert.

But the MVG warns - there are bottlenecks in the subway traffic.

Munich – It will be really crowded this Saturday, August 6, probably at the Munich Exhibition Center: up to 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the open-air concert by singer Andreas Gabalier.

The concert starts at 8 p.m.

But the MVG warns in advance.

She expects bottlenecks in underground traffic to and from the airport.

Andreas Gabalier in Munich: bottlenecks in the subway - MVG warns

"

The MVG is strengthening the subway and at times trebling the offer for the trade fair.

At the same time, the MVG recommends planning more time for the journeys before and after the concert and to examine alternatives," says a press release from the MVG.

Despite the planned reinforcements

, MVG expects bottlenecks, especially after the end of the event, when thousands are pushing towards the subway.

“The organizer regulates the flow of visitors, which can lead to longer waiting times on the way to the subway.

If there is a risk of the underground station being overcrowded, it will be closed as usual for safety reasons until there is enough space on the platform for passengers moving up," announces the MVG - and asks the passengers for a little patience.

You can read all the concrete changes in underground traffic here:

  • Changes in underground traffic for the Andreas Gabalier concert:

  • The U8 booster line compresses the section from the city center to the exhibition center to a 5-minute cycle.

It departs from the Olympic Center at around 11 a.m.

  • From 5 p.m. to around 2 a.m. additional trains run on the U2 between Harthof and Messe.

  • After the concert, additional trains run at short intervals from the Messestadt West underground station as the U2 and U8 in the direction of the city center.

  • The subway station can be reached via the East entrance to the event site.

  • For safety reasons, the Messestadt Ost underground station is closed for departure.

But the fans will probably accept the possible subway chaos without much hesitation.

Because they had to be patient for a long time for the performance of the Austrian folk rock 'n' roller: The concert was actually planned as part of a "fan festival" for summer 2020.

However, due to the corona pandemic, the event was postponed several times.

Andreas Gabalier concert in Munich: supporting program significantly reduced

The supporting program is also significantly reduced: In 2019, an open-air amusement park was announced.

There will be no such thing.

Nevertheless, visitors can enter the site from 12 noon.

Among other things, a “food truck mile” is planned there.

It remains to be seen whether many fans will actually storm the fair at lunchtime given the uncomfortable weather.

  • Gabalier concert in Munich - alternatives for arrival and departure:

  • Concert guests can also use the S-Bahn to travel to and from the venue.

The S2 can be reached on foot via the Riem and Feldkirchen train stations, from the west entrance to the event site.

There is a connection to the S4 and S6 at Trudering station.

  • In addition, the organizer offers a free bus shuttle to the Munich city area after the concert.

The bus terminal for this is located in front of the ICM Congress Center at the Messesee.

There is also a clear recommendation from the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe: Visitors should think of rain ponchos - and wear suitable shoes.

"At Andreas Gabalier's concerts in the past, we have handed out plasters by the meter because brogues had not yet shrunk in or because the pumps with the dirndl caused blisters," said head of operations Markus Bauer.

In addition, not all areas of the concert grounds are asphalted.

Because of the footpaths from the subway or the parking lots, a few additional kilometers can add up.
