Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during a phone call between the two sides today, the latest developments in the region, in addition to aspects of joint cooperation in various fields between Syria and the United Nations.
Minister Miqdad stressed the need for the United Nations to play its role in stopping the current Israeli aggression on Gaza, condemning the repeated Israeli attacks on Syria, and giving the necessary attention to the situation in the occupied Syrian Golan, in line with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
Minister Miqdad also touched on the continued violations committed by the US occupation in northeastern Syria and its continued support for terrorist groups at Al-Tanf base on the Syrian-Jordanian and Iraqi borders.
On the other hand, Minister Miqdad stressed the importance of the full implementation of early recovery projects in Syria, especially in the electricity sector, pointing out the need for the United Nations to raise its voice in the face of unilateral coercive measures illegally imposed on the Syrian people.
In turn, Guterres stressed the need to respect Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and to adhere to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, noting that the United Nations is working with all concerned parties to avoid further escalation in Gaza.
Guterres indicated that the United Nations will spare no effort to carry out its responsibilities with regard to early recovery projects, especially those related to electricity, given its vital role in various areas of life, reiterating his position not to accept unilateral coercive measures.
