Monastery renovation in Benediktbeuern is on schedule

Progress is being made step by step on the major construction site of the south arcade wing in the Benediktbeuern monastery.
Work is done both inside and outside.
The work is on schedule.

Anyone who is currently standing at the construction site fence in the courtyard of the monastery will probably be wondering what this long straight line that is currently being renovated is.
It is the Mühlbach, more precisely its overflow, which runs through the middle of the monastery and is newly fortified.
It is a major reason why the southern arcade wing of the monastery got "wet feet": The water seeping out of the canal damaged the pillars.
In the meantime, work in the south arcade wing is going as smoothly as hoped, reports Father Claudius Amann during the tour of the construction site.
In the basement, the workers have made good progress.
The pillars are founded, the basement is plastered.
Lines are currently being laid here and everything is being prepared for the necessary infrastructure.

It will then be possible to prepare 700 to 1000 meals in the central kitchen.
The other kitchens for the different areas will be dissolved.
The construction of the new kitchen is currently the greatest challenge on the construction site for Father Claudius, because the costs for stainless steel and nickel have risen on the world market.
As reported, the estimated total renovation costs for the southern arcade wing are around 20 million euros.
Funding comes from a variety of funding programs.
“We definitely want to keep to the framework,” says the head of the facility.
The Mühlbach Canal will be re-embedded.
If a Leonhardi ride can take place this year, the monastery courtyard will be structured differently for the blessing.

Dining rooms are also being prepared on the ground floor: for example, the passage to the south garden is being glazed.
"This will be a very nice dining area for the guests," says the Father as he walks through to the Orangery.
"This area will remain open, but it will certainly be used for eating in the summer." Additional rooms to the west of the ground floor will have dual use.
"Depending on the needs of the guests, they can be used as additional dining rooms or for educational events," says the Father.
Aisle floor on first floor needs to be stabilized
On the first floor, the specialists are still busy stabilizing the floor of the aisle by means of so-called silting.
To put it simply, these are cross-tensioned ropes.
The wooden floor is partially renewed.
This work is extensive and has been going on for months.
The entire Fürstensaal, i.e. the former house chapel, is currently torn open, the smell of sawdust is in the air.
But the workers are making as good progress as hoped, and they want to be done with it in the fall.
Later, the removed "Sollnhofener slabs" are to be laid on the ground again.
When the floors are finished, walls and ceilings are made.
If everything goes according to plan, the renovation should be completed in 2024.
Despite the construction site, numerous visitors continue to come to the monastery, and the activity center and youth hostel are also operating as usual, the priest reports.
"Most of them know that we have a construction site in the southern arcade wing and have no problem with that."
