Are you also on boxes now?

The summer months are the hot season (what is hot? hot) of apartment transitions.

Movers are the busiest people these days and boxes are the most sought after goods among friends and acquaintances, in case you didn't know.

Why is everyone moving now?

Mainly because the summer months are also the big vacation, when the children are not in preschools, and since sometimes moving means changing schools or kindergartens, most people prefer to do it during the holidays, rather than in the middle of the year.

If you are also currently in the process of or about to move, Here are some invaluable tips that will help you do it a little better and more efficiently:

Packing tips:

1. Number your boxes

- numbering the boxes will also help you know exactly how much equipment you have (many carriers price the transport according to the number of boxes).

Write a concise description of the contents on the box itself.

And in the list that you will keep with you, write a detailed description of what is in each box.

That way, when you get to the dump and you're looking for something specific, you'll know exactly which box to look for it.

2. Mark the boxes with colors

- assign a certain color to each of the central rooms in the house (to which you are moving) and mark the boxes with large, colorful stickers (for example: red=kitchen, blue=shower, green=bedroom, yellow=children's room).

This way you can direct the movers to place the boxes where their contents are to be unloaded.

This will save you carrying and dragging boxes around the house and is especially recommended for those who are moving to a house with more than one level (carrying boxes up the stairs sucks).

3. Short on boxes?

Bedding, linens, clothes and towels can also be packed in large garbage bags or suitcases.

Save the boxes for fragile items and small items.

4. Pack your hanging clothes without removing them from the hangers

- when you get to the new house, just pull them out with the hanger and hang them straight in the closet.

5. How do you pack flower pots?

Our recommendation is to move pots yourself, as much as possible.

If they are small, put them in boxes (you can crowd several together).

Large and heavy pots will have to be left for the carriers to take, but it is better to leave them at the end so that they are not damaged inside the truck and to make sure that the carriers treat them gently.

Golden tip: always make the bed first.

Unloading tips:

1. Do not connect the refrigerator in the new house immediately when you arrive

- the compressor of the refrigerator (the one that compresses the air and cools it) must be lubricated all the time.

When the refrigerator is tipped for transport and loading, the oil flows out of the compressor towards other parts of the refrigerator.

Running the compressor without oil will destroy the refrigerator.

Therefore, you must give the refrigerator time to stand and the oil to return and cover the compressor.

The recommended time to wait after transporting a refrigerator is 3-4 hours.

2. Arrange your bed as you arrive at the new house

- keep clean sheets in a handbag or suitcase and offer the beds immediately when you arrive at the new house, even before you start unpacking boxes.

A day of moving is an exhausting and exhausting day, at some point you will feel like you are going to collapse in a second and then you will find that you still have to offer the bed and you really won't have the strength for it.

That way the bed will be waiting for you offered and arranged exactly the second you reach exhaustion.

3. Arrange gas, internet and television technicians in advance

- About a week or two before the move, contact the various suppliers and coordinate technicians to install gas, television and internet for the day of the move or a roof the day after.

These are things that it sucks to live even a few days without them.

4. Don't rush to hang things on the walls

- the desire to see the house "standing" is understandable and natural, but wait a second with the drill and the hammer.

It is recommended to wait until all the rooms are arranged and all the furniture is in place (and even live and use the new living space for a few days) before deciding on which wall to hang a picture, mirror or shelf.

In the first days and weeks at home, everything is still very subject to change and if you hang up and regret it, you will be left with ugly holes in the wall.

Too bad.

5. Placement of flower pots

- If you are a plant lover and you moved pots with you from the previous house, keep an eye on them in the first weeks after the move.

The change in the environment, in the directions of the light and the shock of the transition may harm the plants.

On the other hand, some potted plants will actually thrive following the change.

What is important is to be sensitive to changes and adjust the treatment of the plant accordingly (for example, a pot that looks distressed - try to change its location. Maybe it receives too much/too little light).
