Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is optimistic about the delivery of weapons. Russia should also be careful not to hold "pseudo-referendums" in the Donbass.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has hinted at new arms deliveries to his compatriots in the face of heavy fighting in the Donbass.

“Next week we expect news from partners regarding the aid packages.

Good news! «Zelenskyj said in his daily video speech on Sunday.

The key to successful defense is still arms deliveries from the West, he warned.

According to Zelenskyj, the fiercest fighting is raging in the Donbass, and the situation there remains difficult.

Defending places like "Avdiivka, Pisky, Maryinka and Bakhmut requires our main effort and, unfortunately, many lives," he stated.

He also renewed his accusations against Russia for shelling the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

There must be a "principled response from the world community," he demanded.

The power plant came under fire again on Sunday.

Russia and Ukraine blame each other for the shelling.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is calling on both sides to allow international nuclear experts unhindered access to the facility.

Referendums by Russia in occupied Ukrainian territories mean the end of talks

Zelenskyy threatened Russia with a final break off of talks if Russia pushes ahead with the annexation of further Ukrainian territories.

Selenskyj is referring to the referendums announced by the Russian side in occupied territories about annexation to Russia.

"If the occupiers continue down the path of pseudo-referendums, they will end all opportunities for dialogue with Ukraine and the free world," says Zelenskyy.

In the first few weeks after the Russian invasion in February, delegations from both sides met repeatedly for talks, which have not been continued since the end of March.

Russia had already annexed Crimea in 2014, citing an internationally unrecognized referendum.

In his video speech, the Ukrainian President only touched on a meeting with actress and Oscar winner Jessica Chastain.

In the small town of Irpin, she saw the consequences of the Russian occupation with her own eyes.

"Your story about the war will definitely be heard." An important humanitarian action is being prepared together, Zelenskyj announced, without giving details.

In the past few weeks, several well-known international actors have been guests in Kyiv.
