From a painstakingly restored collector's item to a contemporary witness that has been left in its original state: the Imperial Era tour in Haag was an Eldorado for motorcycle nostalgics.

Hague

- Around 100 vintage motorcycles could be admired at the 10th Kaiserzeit tour of the Veteranen Motorrad Club München (MVMC) at the weekend in the Schlossallee in Haag.

For two years, the event fell victim to the corona virus.

Now, at last, the outing for the PS rarities built up to 1918 could take place again.

The Olympic spirit blew through the Ampertal and the Hallertau on Sunday: the journey was the goal – and the joy of driving.

"It's like a virus," admitted Gert Holmersma.

The Dutchman had been on the road for two days on his Indian Power Plus (1920) in order to be able to take part in the imperial period outing.

Partner Thea Bron rattled on a machine from the "Excelsior Supply & Manufacturing Company" next to him.

The heavy motorcycle with chain drive and sprung front wheel from 1919 was an "eye catcher".

Tight-fitting leather caps, matching goggles and heavy gloves

A cameraman from Bavarian television had the two in his sights with his film camera in order to let them have their say in the evening show.

Every year they are at the big motorcycle meeting in the Ampertal, the couple said.

The experience of the landscape on the attractive side routes when driving through the Hallertau is indescribable.

Like most of the classic car enthusiasts, the two wore original clothing: tight-fitting leather caps, matching goggles and heavy motorcycle gloves.

While the motorcycle owners were busy preparing for the trip, the many "onlookers" enjoyed the flair of the event: the loud rattling and popping of the exhaust when the collector's items were started may have sounded like music to their ears.

More than an insider tip: the “Hildebrandt & Wolfmüller”

Well-founded information about the history of motorized two-wheelers was provided by Thomas Stauffert, member of the MVMC board.

The professor of business administration has been dealing with it since his youth.

The "Hildebrandt & Wolfmüller" is a very special driving machine, said the motorbike enthusiast.

On the way near Siechendorf: The participants set off from the Ampertal to the Hallertau at top speeds of 40 kilometers per hour.

Michael Leibfritz brought a model, copied from the original, to Haag.

The world's first production motorcycle was patented in 1894.

In the "Motorrad-Fahrrad-Fabrik München" the good piece was first manufactured in 1892, laying the foundation for the history of the motorcycle.

The company owners Heinrich Hildebrand and Alois Wolfmüller are the "fathers" of the two-wheeled, motorized vehicle and are responsible for the fact that millions of "bikers" can now live their dream of "downhill skiing", enthused Stauffert.

Lined with many spectators, the participants positioned their machines shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday.

At the southern entrance to Schlossallee there were occasional starting problems.

With Kilian Karl's "Hermes", for example.

"Then we'll just push the messenger of the gods," said the surrounding bikers.

At a maximum speed of 40 km/h, they drove via Zolling, Siechendorf and Berghaselbach to Au, cheered by onlookers on the side of the road.
