A saga that refuses to end
: his uncle Laniado, who was convicted of assault and burglary, will be able to run in the Likud - this is what the Likud court ruled this evening (Monday).
The judges wrote in their decision that "We have come to the conclusion that we cannot help but intervene in the election committee's decision and we determine that there are legal obstacles to disqualifying a candidate because of convictions for which the statute of limitations has passed.
"However, the court calls on the appellant to examine and consider the consequences of his candidacy, in light of his statement before us, that if he is convinced that his candidacy harms the good of the movement, he will do the right thing on his own initiative."
Following the decision, Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the Likud Ombudsman to file an appeal with the District Court against the approval of his uncle's candidacy for Nyado.
To recall, as we published, the election committee of the Likud party rejected the candidacy of his uncle Laniado, one of the prominent candidates in the Likud primaries and a member of the party who was previously convicted of breaking into homes, who is considered a close associate of Knesset member David Bitan.
As recently published in Israel Hayom, the former Prime Minister asked Boaz Bismuth, the former editor-in-chief of Israel Hayom, to compete in the primaries against Bitan's candidate for the place reserved for the Tel Aviv district, instead of on the national list - but Bismuth refused.
