Hama-Sana
The Directorate of Agriculture in Hama estimated the governorate’s production of walnuts for the current season at 668 tons.
The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Ashraf Bakir, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the total number of walnut trees is 107,000, including 53,019 trees in the irrigated lands, including 50,478 fruitful trees, in addition to 54,235 trees within the rainfed and fruitful lands, including 48,749 trees, indicating that the total area planted with these trees is up to 6250 dunums, of which 3396 dunums are irrigated and 2854 dunums are attic.
Bakir pointed out that walnut cultivation is widespread in the Orontes Basin and in the highlands such as Masyaf and Wadi El-Ayoun, in addition to the areas of Taiba Al-Imam and Khattab, noting that walnut fruits generate good financial income for their farmers for their multiple uses in making sweets and mortar.
