Firefighters rescued at least 19 people in Denver, Colorado, after flash flooding on Sunday turned roads into rivers on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Kentucky, which has already suffered from storm damage, faces the possibility of more storms this week.

The National Weather Service in Louisville warned in a tweet Monday morning that Tuesday and Wednesday could

bring widespread showers or thunderstorms

.

Dozens of people were killed in the flooding, which began late last month, while scores of homes were destroyed, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said at a news conference earlier this month.

The visit comes after Biden last month issued a major disaster declaration for the state and ordered federal aid to be sent to affected areas.

Over the weekend, the president amended the declaration to make additional disaster assistance available to Kentucky to aid in debris removal and emergency protective measures.

Underpass Rescues in Denver

In videos and photos shared on social media, cars in Denver could be seen partially submerged in water, and one video appeared to show a firefighter rescuing two children from a vehicle trapped in floodwaters.

The Denver Fire Department told NBC News that its crews rescued at least 19 people from the floodwaters.

Eight people were rescued in an underpass on 38th Avenue below Blake Street in an incident that appeared to be along the lines of the video of the children being rescued, said Lt. JD Chism, public information officer for the fire department.

The department confirmed to KUSA, a Denver-based NBC affiliate, that multiple minors were rescued at the scene.

Another 11 people were rescued from their vehicles on Interstate 70 at York Street, Chism said.

"Both places were underpasses that had rapidly accumulated water and the drainage was not enough," Chism said.

The flash flooding came at a time when Kentucky, already devastated by flash flooding, is facing the possibility of severe storms this week.

The National Weather Service in Louisville warned in a tweet early Monday that widespread showers or thunderstorms could occur Tuesday and Wednesday, raising flooding concerns.

"Hot and humid start to the week with afternoon thunderstorms," he posted.

“Then an approaching cold front increases storm coverage and flooding concerns.”

More than three dozen people died during the flooding, which began late last month

, while homes were destroyed, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced at a news conference earlier this month.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are expected to travel to eastern Kentucky on Monday to assess flash flood damage.
