The noise from the storage area of the Freising building yard annoys the residents.

They're asking for evictions.

But that's not going to happen that quickly.

Freising

– "Imagine tipping an excavator shovel full of paving stones into a steel hollow." It rings in your ears badly - as is often the case with the residents of Tuchinger Straße in Freising.

The source of noise, which gets on the nerves of the people of Tuchingen and at times "drives them out of their gardens", as resident Bernhard Fritz describes, is the storage area of the municipal building yard.

Several residents of Tuchinger Straße have now joined forces and are calling for the storage area to be relocated as a "maximum solution".

Such is not in sight, at least in the short term, as city spokeswoman Christl Steinhart said on request.

But the concerns of the citizens are taken "very seriously".

Efforts are already being made to improve the situation - a specialist office has been called in.

The residents have already measured 90 decibels

As the crow flies, the camp site is about 150 meters from the houses on Tuchinger Straße.

This distance is not enough to stem the enormous noise peaks that occur when building materials are loaded, tailgates bang and wheel loader shovels are set down – according to Fritz up to 90 decibels.

“The noise is increasing and our quality of life is constantly declining.

Sometimes we can no longer spend time in our own garden,” reports Fritz.

For years, attempts have been made to relocate the camp site - "but unfortunately the city is only moving in tortoise mode here," as Fritz puts it.

Outsourcing will take years

But for the people of Tuchingen there is a glimmer of hope, albeit a faint one.

"With the new edition of the land use plan that is already being developed, suitable new locations for outsourcing the building yard with storage space are also being examined," reports Steinhart.

This was also communicated to the residents - including in 2021 at an on-site visit.

"The planning and, above all, outsourcing will take a few more years," Steinhart concedes, "so it would be a mistake to raise hopes that the storage area in Tuching would be relocated in the short term."

A specialist office carries out noise measurements

In order to minimize construction site traffic to the Tuching storage site and to obtain further "prompt improvements" for the residents, the city is also trying to find additional interim storage areas for excavated material.

Steinhart: "In particular, the delivery and reloading of paving stones mean temporary noise as long as the construction site situation persists." this becomes necessary due to the assessment."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The residents were informed about the measurements for this noise report in July and invited to participate.

Steinhart: "After all, they should be able to personally explain and present what bothers them the most in order to recreate the situation in simulations, among other things." The evaluation of the data and the processing of the report are currently being worked on by the specialist office.

The city spokeswoman emphasizes: "The results will show whether and how noise emissions can be reduced by structural measures."

External companies have already been terminated

Another small consolation for the noise-plagued citizens: After all, the work on the camp site was limited to the opening hours (Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.; Friday from 7.15 a.m. to 11.15 a.m.).

And: The previously common use of the storage area by external companies who do construction work in Freising on behalf of the city ended when the lease contracts expired on January 1, 2022, as Steinhart informed.

Only one sewer construction company continues to use the storage space together with the building yard for the rapid provision of the necessary materials, for example when creating house connections.

In emergencies such as sewer burglaries, there could be “brief activities outside of the working hours shown” in rare exceptional cases, says Steinhart.

The underground of the camp also drives the people of Tuchingen

However, the residents still have a problem.

The camp site has been built over the former rubbish dump.

It is feared that pollutants will be inhaled along with the dust thrown up during the work.

Fritz: “The building yard is congruent with the former landfill.

I don't want to know what else is in there." Unfortunately, the development of dust cannot be completely prevented, explains Steinhart, but "possible contamination from deeper layers of the earth" is not to be expected.

Fritz fully acknowledges that the Freising city administration is “trying hard” here.

However: "All efforts will not take effect if the storage space is not cleared".
