The project is intended to relieve Eschenlohe.

Work has now started on the construction of the new state road, which will be laid parallel to the motorway.

The route should be completed by mid-2023.

Eschenlohe

– With the construction of the state road 2060, another piece of the puzzle is being created for the major project “Eschenlohe-Oberau-Nord with Auerberg Tunnel”.

This is announced by Autobahn Südbayern in a press release.

In the meantime, work has begun on the road that leads from Eschenlohe to Oberau.

"The relocation of the state road also means the closure of the so-called 'Olympic Tunnel' and the dismantling of the B2 in this area," explains Katharina Holzapfel, spokeswoman for the federal Autobahn GmbH (South Bavaria branch).

Routing is adjusted

Last week, Autobahn GmbH employees were busy with earthworks near Höllensteinstraße.

"These are used in preparation for the construction of the drainage facilities and for the construction of the later route," says Holzapfel.

State highway 2060 is expected to open to traffic in mid-2023.

The A 95 Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen motorway, ending at Eschenlohe, will remain in place.

With the completion of the Auerberg tunnel - probably in 2028 - the route at the end of the motorway will be slightly adjusted for an optimal entry into the new overpass.

"With the new construction of the Weghaus semi-junction, which was opened to traffic at the end of November 2021, as well as with the four-lane expansion of the B 2 between Eschenlohe and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the flow of traffic in the Loisachtal should be improved and the neighboring communities relieved," explains the speaker.

As early as last year, work began on widening the motorway underpass on the Höllensteinstraße municipal road, since traffic on the new state road is also to be routed over this bridge.

Tunnels are closed

The relocation of the state road is ultimately a further step on the way to the planned permanent closure of the dilapidated Olympic tunnel along the B 2 and to relieving Eschenlohe of traffic.

Because vehicles such as agricultural equipment, construction machinery and large equipment are not allowed to use the motorway.

Furthermore, the tunnels represent an obstacle for many vehicles - because of their height and width.

Thus, the traffic flows through Eschenlohe.

Trucks with construction cranes in tow wind their way around the narrow bends in town.

Not a good thing for the community.

Mayor Anton Kölbl (CSU) was already convinced in June: only when the B 2 is relocated to the new state road will it bring relief to his town.

The start of work on the new state road initially does not entail any restrictions.

However, there will be hindrances and changed traffic routing later.
