Negotiations aimed at reviving the original nuclear agreement from 2015 failed once again after the Iranians gave their answers to the drafts submitted to them this evening (Monday).
"The negotiations to obtain a text have ended. We have created a text and what happens next will depend on the answer of the participants," said a senior official in the European delegation who mediates between the parties.
Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry also poured cold water on the chances of success of the current round and rejected the publications in the last day according to which an agreement is on the verge of being signed.
"We are not in a position to talk about a closed agreement," said an anonymous source to the regime's state news agency on Monday.
"We still believe that we will be able to end the talks quickly if the other side makes the right decisions, but we are not there yet," he clarified.
As a reminder, last night it was reported that the parties did reach an agreement in principle and are working on a final version, as claimed by Henrique Mora, the mediator of the European Union in the talks.
"We held talks regarding technical questions that remain written in the text. We are making progress and I expect that we will close the negotiations soon," the senior claimed in a conversation with reporters at the end of another day of talks.
The ninth round of discussions, which began last week, was characterized by mutual suspicion due to the impasse the talks reached after months of contacts.
The regime in Tehran demands the removal of all sanctions on its economy as well as the termination of the investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding a suspicious substance that was allegedly found in a number of facilities on Iranian territory.
Also, in Tehran they demand that the USA remove the Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations, something that Washington refuses at this time.
As mentioned, the Iranian team is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bakri Khani, and on the other hand, the representatives of the countries that signed the original nuclear agreement from 2015 are present, among them: China, Russia, Germany, Great Britain and France, with the US participating in the negotiations "indirectly" through the representative of President Joe Biden for the talks, Robert Malley, and the whole process is conducted by Enrique Mora, the deputy commissioner for foreign policy of the European Union.
