(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, AUGUST 05 - "The remains of a building, probably one of the four lost sun temples of the Fifth Dynasty, dating back to the mid-25th century BC, were unearthed in Abusir, in the governorate of Giza , a few kilometers southwest of Cairo ", from" joint mission of the University of Naples L'Orientale and the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw ".

The head of the mission for the Polish Academy, Massimiliano Nuzzolo, reported this with a text to ANSA, providing details on an announcement made last weekend by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and announcing that "mission will soon complete its work, in an attempt to fully unveil 'ancient temple ".

"Several fragments of clay seals bearing real names were also found, including that of the enigmatic Fifth Dynasty Shepseskare, of which we do not have much information", said in the text Rosanna Pirelli, head of the mission for the University of Naples. .

The discovery "could change our knowledge of the history of this king as well as of the fifth dynasty in general," says the researcher.

"The solar temple is a particular structure of Egyptian sacred architecture that differs from the classical canonicals used in the buildings of divine worship, which were characterized by progressive walkways that led towards the most impenetrable darkness", he is recalled.

"The solar temple, on the other hand, was the stark opposite; from an inpenumbral access one reached, through articulated passages immersed in the densest darkness, to a sacred courtyard flooded by sunlight.

Here burials were not performed, but rites in honor of the god of the sun. Characteristic element of the solar temple is the obelisk, placed in the center of the central courtyard, in front of which there was an altar for offerings ", is added.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry had pointed out that the remains of the building are accessed through a monumental entrance built in limestone which leads to an area used as warehouses and a large courtyard to the west characterized by a mud floor and some large blocks of quartzite, with "smooth faces", wedged into the stone floor of King Niuserre's Temple of the Sun, among other things, the Italian note.

The mission is also financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci) and the Polish Ministry of Culture (NCN), Nuzzolor recalled, sending for more information to the website www.suntemplesproject.org.
