A "village heating system" for several households: This model comes up again and again, especially in the current energy crisis.

There are also such plans in the municipality of Bad Heilbrunn.

Bad Heilbrunn

- It would be a big step towards the energy transition: a village heating system in the Oberbuchen district of Bad Heilbrunn.

In the most recent meeting, Hans Schlickenrieder from Oberbuchen presented this project to the municipal councils.

In the course of the annual heating oil collection, Schlickenrieder found out last year that some of the neighbors needed a new heating system.

So they came up with the idea of joining forces and investing in a joint wood chip heating system for the district.

In Ramsau, this local heating supply model has been working "perfectly" since 2016, as Mayor Thomas Gründl (CSU) emphasized.

Initiators propose village heating next to the fire station

However, it is still unclear where another village heating system in the Loisachtalgemeinde could be installed.

"In general, the ground next to the fire station in Oberbuchen would be a good idea," the project initiator suggested to the councillors.

The property is owned by the municipality.

However, a new fire station is planned here, Gründl reminded.

"For financial reasons, we cannot implement the new building in the next five years, but we have already received the application.

Therefore, the heating must not impair the construction of the new fire station planned in the distant future," says Gründl.

In view of this, Schlickenrieder described his consideration of installing the wood chip heating system in a cellar under the future fire station.

According to the current plans, this is structurally feasible.

The households involved would set up a cooperative that would have the village heating system built, operate it and take care of filling it.

24 people interested in village heating in Oberbuchen

Green Councilor Kilian Spindler inquired about the planned dimensions.

“According to a citizen survey, there are currently 24 interested parties.

We are assuming that we will need roughly 1,000 bulk cubic meters per year,” explained Schlickenrieder.

Gründl said: “We also have problems with the heating in a municipal building in Oberbuchen and in the existing fire station.

So it would be a win-win situation.” The community would then be involved in the cooperative.

Josef Schröfel (CSU) advocated getting the fire brigade on board with the planning right from the start.

"You should also think about the entrance and the parking spaces together in advance," he emphasized.

The basement also had to be sealed in such a way that there was no time pressure for further construction, Schröfel pointed out and added: "If everything is guaranteed, then I find the idea totally positive."

Bad Heilbrunn municipal council supports village heating

Gründl explained the further steps as follows: “Now it is important to know that the municipal council basically agrees with the matter.

Then we would have to be presented with a clean plan of how the basement should look in concrete terms, so that we could then clarify these official plans with the approval authorities.”

The councils unanimously decided to continue to support the project and to make the property available under the conditions stated.

This also includes the land and roads for laying the lines.

Initiator Schlickenrieder was visibly relieved about the decision.

"The heating was a concern for us before, but now with the energy crisis it has become even more explosive." Now he is happy to be able to initiate the detailed planning for the village heating.

"We are already in contact with the Oberland energy transition, which gives us good advice," says Schlickenrieder when asked by our newspaper.

He is currently reckoning with acquisition costs of around 700,000 euros and government funding of around 44 percent.

Village heating cheaper for everyone

"The remaining costs are then distributed among the members of the cooperative, which is of course also possible through financing," explains the Bad Heilbrunner.

All in all, Schickenrieder is convinced that it is cheaper for everyone to connect to the village heating system than to run their own heating system – whether with oil, gas or pellets.

In addition, even after construction, there would still be capacity to connect more households to the grid.
