Between Gaza and the exhibition grounds: Likud and Labor are preparing for the primaries Israel today

2022-08-08T06:55:42.568Z

The Likud party announced yesterday that if the ceasefire goes into effect - the internal elections will be held on Wednesday • If it is postponed, the new date will be set for the beginning of September

In the shadow of the operation in Gaza, the question arose as to whether the Labor and Likud primaries, which are supposed to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, will be postponed due to the security situation that will make it difficult for people to go out and vote.

At the end of the assessment of the situation in the Labor Party, it was decided that due to the ceasefire entering into force, the elections for the list of the 25th Knesset will take place as planned on Tuesday (9.8) between the hours of 10:00 and 19:00 digitally and securely, and in polling stations that will be set up in Haifa, Beer Sheva, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Nir Rosen, CEO of the party: "Tomorrow at 10:00 the voting will open as planned. Digital voting is easy and simple and does not require leaving the house. We call on all members and members of the party to vote and choose the work list for the 25th Knesset."

Officials in Likud estimated that "if the ceasefire really goes into effect for some time - the primaries will be held as usual on Wednesday", but there is currently no final decision.

If the Likud primaries are indeed postponed, it is estimated that the new date will be set for the beginning of September, arguing that in August many of the functionaries are on vacation and flying abroad.

Officials in Likud fear that if the operation continues and it will not be possible to hold the primaries properly long enough before the closing date of the lists for the Knesset - Netanyahu will be able to text (cancel) the primaries, and in fact copy and paste the list.

But the chance of such a move is low due to the great anger that may arise within the Likud.
