The Government consulted on the planning of the open space at East Street North, Sai Ying Pun, the Central and Western District Waterfront Promenade, and suggested adding a number of facilities, including multi-generational and inclusive play space, multi-purpose activity space, seaside leisure space, viewing platform, refreshment kiosk, water play area District and Xisha District, etc.
The DAB conducted a questionnaire survey among 202 residents in the Central and Western District. More than half of the respondents opposed the above plan, and 70% of the respondents expressed their desire to add pet friendly facilities.
The survey was conducted from April to May this year, and the results showed that 48% of the respondents expressed their support for the open space planning of Dongbian Street North, and 52% of the respondents opposed it.
The survey also pointed out that nearly 70% of the citizens expressed support for the addition of pet friendly facilities in the planning, but more than 20% of the citizens objected. Those who opposed said that dogs would only affect the environmental hygiene and the safety of other users of the site.
DAB Legislative Council member Chen Xuefeng said that the waterfront promenades in the Central and Western District are currently "fragmented" and are managed by different departments. He believes that since there is a Waterfront Affairs Committee, it is better for the government to unify the management by this department.
The DAB put forward six proposals, expecting the government to improve the design of the waterfront promenade, including adding pet friendly facilities; adding greening and environmental protection elements, such as adding solar panels to lights or facilities; adding recreational and fitness facilities, which are especially popular on weekdays proper management of sand and water areas.
