China reiterated its strong opposition to certain countries' attempt to distort and empty the "one China" principle, describing these attempts as illegal and invalid.

In response to a joint statement by the foreign ministers of the United States, Australia and Japan, Xinhua quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin as saying: There is only one China, and Taiwan is a part of it, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China.
