For 14 years, the members of the Social Forum Amper have been commemorating the victims of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It should also be a reminder: something like this mustn't happen again.

At the latest since the Ukraine war, however, fear has grown.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- "70,000 houses destroyed, 70,000 people killed immediately." These are the numbers that Fürstenfeldbruck's second mayor Christian Stangl (Greens) uses in his greeting.

You shock.

And warn: What happened on August 6, 1945, after the first atomic bomb was dropped on Japan, must not be repeated.

"Everyone is called upon to ban nuclear weapons," Stangl said at the Hiroshima anniversary commemoration.

The world must do without weapons of mass destruction.

(

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular

FFB newsletter.)

However, one must oppose those who want to assert territorial claims by force and who want to blackmail the world with energy supplies.

The addressee of the words is clearly named Russia.

"The common house of Europe must not be destroyed," emphasizes the deputy mayor.

Nevertheless, pacifism continues to play an important role for him.

The city of Fürstenfeldbruck is a member of the "Mayors of Peace" initiative.

Herbert Markus, who spoke for the One World Center in Fürstenfeldbruck, praised this.

This organization was founded in 1982 by the then mayor of Hiroshima - also as a symbol that mayors are responsible for the security of their cities.

Markus made it clear: the peace movement must remain an important element.

Because in 2021, a total of 28 wars were counted worldwide.

"The wars that NATO is waging are even completely ignored," Markus continues his criticism.

Bloody fighting has been going on again in Europe, in Ukraine, since February.

For Markus there is only one solution: “Negotiations.

The faster the better and the fewer victims.”

An argument that the publicist and radio presenter Ulrich Seibert took up a little later on Kneipp Island.

Where traditionally the second part of the protest and commemoration of the Social Forum Amper takes place.

Seibert warns: "The longer the war lasts, the greater the danger of escalation." Those who do not destroy the weapons will ultimately be destroyed by the weapons themselves, concludes Seibert.

He rejects sanctions that would be imposed unilaterally by one power bloc against another power bloc.

The audience to which Seibert and all the others speak is manageable with just under 30 participants - despite the Ukraine war and now also the Taiwan conflict.

They are almost always the same, the stubborn and persevering ones like Inge Ammon.

She takes part with the "Speech for Peace" created by Bert Brecht.

Monika Glemnitz adds the description of a hibakusha, as the survivors of the atomic bombing are called in Japan.

Both are elements that are part of every year.

This will be the case again in 2023.

The warnings, commemorations and protests must not stop, they say.

Especially now.
