The court received the summaries of the sentences in the Malka Leifer case and the deli case • Because of this, Litzman will have to complete the months of probation and pay NIS 30,000

After being forced to resign from the Knesset and leave political life:

probation and a fine for former minister Litzman who was convicted of fraud and breach of trust.

The court accepted the summaries of the sentences between the parties in the Malka Leifer case and sentenced the former Minister of Health to eight months of probation and a fine of NIS 3,000.

Judge Yehoshua Zimmerman, who accepted the agreement between the parties on the punishment for the accused, justified the decision: "The protected values that were harmed by the actions of the accused are the maintenance of the purity of morals, a violation of the public's trust regarding the work of public servants and their elected officials, and a violation of the public interest to which the public servant is entrusted. Together with This shows that the degree of harm is not at the high level of harm. In addition, weight must be given to the fact that the accused saw himself as a public messenger, by virtue of his position he received many inquiries from the public, he saw it as a mission to help those who turn to him, and in relation to the case before us it is not claimed that the accused knew Leifer."

Attorney Danny Whitman, from the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, welcomed the decision: "The court adopted the settlement brought before it and determined that the interference of an elected official in the clear professional judgment of a professional level subordinate to him constitutes a criminal offense of breach of trust.

In doing so, the court drew the line between what is allowed and what is not allowed for an elected official and established an appropriate standard of behavior.'

As I recall, at the end of last January, Knesset member Yaakov Litzman from Torah Judaism and the attorney's office reached an agreement by way of a plea deal.

According to what was decided, Litzman should have resigned from the Knesset, and the deli case - in which he was suspected of intervening on behalf of a deli where he usually shops and which failed the Ministry of Health's inspections - would be closed.

The parties decided to remove the interference clause in the Malka Leifer case, although the breach of trust clause will remain.

Because of this, Litzman will be required to pay a fine of NIS 3,000.

However, no disgrace will be imposed on him due to his resignation from the Knesset.

In accordance with the settlement, a few months ago Litzman submitted his letter of resignation to Knesset Speaker Miki Levy, after serving for 23 years, as agreed in the plea agreement he signed. Litzman was elected to the Knesset for the first time in 1999, during his tenure Litzman served as a member of the Knesset, and in key positions on behalf of Judaism The Torah as Chairman of the Finance Committee, Deputy Minister of Health, Minister of Health, and Minister of Construction and Housing.
