In times of energy supply crises and climate change, more and more companies are considering how they can reduce these problems.

The company Sumitomo (SHI) Cyclo Drive Germany GmbH based in Indersdorf is therefore focusing on self-sufficiency with the help of the sun with a new project.

Indersdorf – The expansion of renewable energies is more urgent than ever.

Indersdorf's mayor Franz Obesser made that clear in the last municipal council meeting before the summer break.

First, when it came to the planned expansion of the local district heating network of the Götz company for the districts of Karpfhofen and Eisfeld (we reported in detail).

But Obesser had a second energy transition project that he presented to his local councillors: the company Sumitomo (SHI) Cyclo Drive Germany GmbH – or Cyclo for short, as the Indersdorfers call it – is planning to build an open-air solar park on an area of 22,000 square meters erect.

The property belongs to the company, but the municipality must plan accordingly.

The financing is already regulated between the municipality and the company in an urban planning contract, Sumitomo (SHI) Cyclo Drive Germany GmbH will assume the planning costs - this was already determined in January in a non-public building committee meeting.

As before, Mayor Franz Obesser is enthusiastic about the project by farmer Josef Götz.

"Obviously we think that's a good thing," he said.

"With the help of this construction project, the consumption of fossil fuels is reduced in a large local company and thus an important contribution is made to the long-term protection of the environment and nature," was how Obesser described it at the meeting.

Above all, the company wants to achieve one goal with the new ground-mounted photovoltaic system: "We are planning the project to ensure our energy supply," explains Chief Quality Officer Kaspar Langenegger, when asked by the Dachauer Nachrichten.

According to Langenegger, up to 40 percent self-sufficiency can be achieved with the solar park.

The company currently has an annual consumption of 2.76 GWh per year.

"The solar park should only serve to cover the increased energy requirements of our own electricity supply due to the expansion of our production and development center," says Langenegger.

The capacity of the system is given as 1000 kWp, the yield as 0.98 GWh per year.

According to the current plan, the system is to be installed in the second quarter of 2024.

However, the GmbH not only emphasizes the aspect of security of supply, but also, like Obesser, that of climate protection.

Already in their inquiry to the municipality for the construction project, those responsible explained: "Due to the intended climate targets of the federal government and the increased demand for electricity, there is currently a high urgent need for the expansion of renewable energies in Germany." Company information can help: "In order to support the stated goals and in the interests of the future common good, we intend to build an open-space solar park."

The Indersdorf municipal councils approved the project unanimously.
